Thanks for coming back and visiting – We've experienced some delays in our roll out mostly pertaining to content and procedures. We anticipate that our weekly updates will be just that – Weekly however, if there isn't a good story to tell then we'll spare you the details.

So what's up for the Week of June 8th

Couple highlights, events and shows of note.

A bit of hot air is still available in Central Oregon – Balloons over Bend continues this weekend and more information can be found at www.balloonsoverbend.com as well as the Source Weekly had a program insert in this weeks source – visit: www.tsweekly.com for additional information.

It's kind of a joke around the Bend – Nice weather always missed Balloons over Bend although yesterday and today is nice so we are hoping that things got up in the air. The night glow is always a fun time.

2nd Street Theater has a new production that has been receiving good reviews although we have not attended yet but plan on shortly. “Sweet Charity” has opened and runs May 29 – June 28 with performance times found at http://www.central-oregon.com/2ndstreettheater/

Per their website: SWEET CHARITY
Book by Neil Simon, Music by Cy Coleman, Lyrics by Dorothy Fields
May 29 – June 28, 2008

In this classic musical comedy Charity Hope Valentine wants to be loved so much that she has lost sight of who she is. She sings, dances, laughs and cries her way through romances. This five time Tony Award winner contains such hits as Big Spender and If My Friends Could See Me Now.

A couple of great visual arts shows are in the area including:

3J's in June – Work by Janice Druian, Janet Guiley and Judy Hoiness through June at Tumalo Art Company. Visit: http://www.tumaloartco.com/ Susan always hosts a good show and this is no exception. First Friday (www.bendgalleries.com) provided to be a good venue at Tumalo Art Company.

The High Desert Art League has their “ Desert Visions” at the High Desert Museum south of Bend. The show runs through July 13th and is worth the time, gas money and cost of admission. For more information visit: http://www.highdesertartleague.com/ or the Museum at: http://www.highdesertmuseum.org/

“Out West” of town, one of our favorite stops is Canyon Creek Pottery. Ken runs a spotty schedule during the winter/spring months so we recommend calling prior to your drive. We visited last weekend and he has redone some things around the studio so for you regulars – visit him in Sisters Oregon …. For more information on Ken, his pottery and the studio visit: http://www.canyoncreekpotteryllc.com/
While you visit Sisters get around town, stop at Angeline's Bakery for a great breakfast or lunch and visit the small shops. Not all the shops cater to tourists and there are a few nice galleries in the area. Sisters Oregon is a nice escape from downtown Bend.

Again and Again Thump has a great exhibition and this time from Nathan Gray and Robert Johana along with “Wishes” hanging from the ceiling. Information on Thump can be found at: http://www.thumpcoffee.com/

North in Madras you have the opportunity to visit a traveling exhibition from the Weaving Guilds of Oregon. Our informants have indicated that the show is worth the drive. For more information visit: http://www.artadventuregallery.com/

Our informants also indicated that they had a nice lunch at The Spot in Redmond on their way back to Bend. The North bound lanes of highway 97 have been rerouted around town with the South bound (6th street) scheduled for later this month. Walk The Art Beat and “Westcape” is scheduled for Friday June 27th in Downtown Redmond. Last April was a blast and the quality and activities very good – We'll provide a recap or highlight shortly. For more information on Walk the Art Beat visit: http://www.downtownredmond.com/events.html

Art At Work — Barbara Berry (Sisters Oregon) work is at the Alexander Drake Building through September 2008. We've been a fan of Barbara's work and her new work has grown and the exhibition, although not large is worth the tour of the building. The Alexander Drake Building is located downtown Bend at 250 NW Franklin. For more information: http://www.barbaraberry.com/

That's a wrap for this week and do plan on getting out, involved and show your support of Central Oregon Arts – Arts Abound in Central Oregon. Support local arts!
